Initial D Final Stage review

After the disappointing Fifth Stage , we get this

season finale with 4 episodes focusing on the last race of the Project D team.

This final race encompass Takumi Fujiwara vs Inui Shinji , an 86 vs 86.
Granted this is not the first 86 vs 86 race in the show but what makes this one different is that Shinji resemble a lot Takumi back in First Stage. ( 0 knowledge in mechanics and drives purely based on intuition and years of home course experience )

On first note the race seems unfair :
Takmui has a groupe A 20v 4A-GELU engine , heavily tuned suspensions , massively lightened curb weight and a full on roll cage.
While Shinji has a regular AE86 engine ( heavily tuned though )   and tuned suspensions.

So in theory this should be a one sided battle , but since Shinji is just like ( if not better than ) First Stage Takmui , its not that simple.

Shinji's intuition and his unrivaled knowledge about his home course compensate for his car's disadvantage , and is able to give Takmui a run for his money and even making fun of him at the start of the race.
But Takmui pull himself together and is able to pressure Shinji which stimulate Shinji even more and the race get picked up a notch.
Until we arrive at the end where Takmui accidentally blow up his engine to win by a hair thin margin.

The end however is slightly different than its Manga counterpart.
In the Manga :
-Takmui was present during the Project D dissembling party.
- Takmui scrapped his AE86.

Obviously the second one is a heartbreaking moment and that's why the Anime crew changed it.
Also there is one final change that really took me off guard :

Like they say , a picture is worth a 1000 word. ( i nearly cried when i saw this scene )

All in all , Final Stage feels more fun , complete , exciting and nostalgic than Fifth Stage  , and even though it saddens me seeing the series come to a close , i'm still happy because of the upcoming DVD release of Initial D the movie : Legend 1 - Awakening-
